Hello there.
First off, should this not be the best forum to post in, feel free to move the topic. I decided to post it as an emergency as I can take them back to my LFS with full refund but the shop will only be open in the morning tomorrow in case action has to be taken.
I've had for few months 4 silver dollars in my 3 foot + aquarium, then added a BN plec and 3 japonica shrimps. All good.
I bought today 3 golden gouramis (2 males and 1 female) after some research, and as the guys at my LFS told me I could take them back should some heavy nippin occour. In their opinion the dollars could have been the nippy ones given the finnage and sparkling colours of the gouramis.
At first all the fish were a bit having their little new tankmates shock, which is ok. The gouramis went on to feel every tankmate (including the shrimps) with their feelers. The 2 bigger dollars didn't mind, the small ones were more lively about it.
Probably due to the movement going on in the tank the shrimps started swimming around a lot, which they never did before (they've always been hiding in the same corner, pretty much). Now the dollars chased each other quite a bit, with the gouramis minding their own business.
They look fine for most of the time, but the fact that the dollars started chasing each others like they rarely ever did kinda worried me a bit.
My question is: what particular behaviours should i look for to understand if the gouramis are not a good addiction?
I also added further plants to put in each corner of the tank, in order to create different hiding places.
The dollars are still juvenile and about 3/3.5 inches, which is the same size of the gouramis and BN plec (which hasn't got any problems at all).
Any input would be welcome!
Thanks a lot,
Alex
