I have a 7inch pleco thats has now got to big for my tank and i want to sell it. How much would u suggest i could sell it for?? (in euros) 8)

Youll be lucky to get anything for it, most lfs are full of unwanted returned plecs that will spend the rest of their unhappy lives stuck in a sump tank where they go unnoticed and unwanted. This is why you really shouldnt buy any fish that is going to get too big for you to keep, IMO they should stop selling common and gibiceps plecs apart from on special order, very few people are willing to buy a 5 foot tank with massive filtration so that they can keep their plec for life.

i saw a lady take back a large pleco to a shop and she got £15 for it coz of its size

Hrm ...well i saw a 10 inch pleco in a fish shop and the where selling it for €300 so.... iwant money like that

Most LFS around my way dont offer money for a lagre unwanted fish but exchange them for other fish!!

Shouldn't you have checked out the size that pleco's grow to before you bought one????????

oh and if you wnat to sell it the going rate for a 4" pleco is 8 euro's and a 10" is about 30 euro's so forget that $200 mark

That shop is either very expensive or that plec was something rare, no way do even huge common plecs (20"+) sell for 300 anythings. One lfs near me actually gives large common plecs away for nothing if they know the customer has a big enough tank and large sailfin gibbys are under a £10.

A lot of the overgrown plecos end up in show tanks in restaurants & hotels. Where they are happy to only have a few large fish on display and can afford the large tank & filtration!

In was in a restaurant on Friday, where they had 2 large plecos (over 15") sharing the tank with various goldfish (koi?). The tank was at least 8ft long and 3ft wide.

I agree that people should investigate the fish before they buy them, but think equally the LFS shares some of the blame as they should advise the person before they buy.

Although I would never buy a fish from Petsmart (Petco), they at least display the full name, scientific name, eating requirements, shoaling/agressive and the final length for all the fish on sale.
