I just had to put Steve to sleep because of a rather bad case of dropsy. I would have tried to save him as it is possible to do so but due to his age I thought it was fairer to let the poor guy go Because of his age I figured it was most likely caused by organ failure so I put him in a tub and added clove oil and watched as he slowly started to drift away
Steve was so lucky to have a caring loving owner like you who could see that he wasn't going to get better and to let him go peacefully without suffering
I can also relate to your loss, but my boy Blueballs wasn't sick, just old.. And he committed suicide. Jumped during a water change and flopped into the drain of the sink before I could catch him. I could see him in the U-bend with a flashlight, but I could find anything to pry the U-bend apart. That, and my parents would've killed me. It was sad too, as I'd just lifted the plastic tub off of his cup long enough to fill up the bowl with it.
Steve.. I really like his colours, he was gorgeous.
I'm so sorry It never gets any easier, but he was so lucky to have such a good home, just think of the life you provided compared to what most bettas get
So sorry for your loss. I know how you're feeling. This week one of my girls got caught under a piece of rock and couldn't get up for air. It hurts like heck to lose one. You're in our thoughts.
