Rabid Betta Activist
So. I was thinking of getting a pair of Plakats this summer (June-ish) from a breeder in Connecticut. I don't like keeping bettas in anything smaller than 2.5 gallons, preferably in 5 or more so long as the fish isn't too shy to handle it. So, I decided to do a count of how many "free" tanks I have lest I wish to purchase some bettas.
Well. In addition to the five I have fish in (2 corner tanks, 2 rectangular tanks, and 1 hex tank I'm not fond of), I have three 5-gallon rectangular tanks, three 10 gallon tanks (well, two, but my CAE is moving into a thirty next month), one 7-gallon tank, one three-gallon tank, and four 2.5 gallon tanks. I also have several ones that I use strictly for hospital tanks for fish who are too ill to have anything much deeper, but they don't count since I wouldn't keep a betta in them long term. So, I have at minimum 7 tanks I'd be more than happy to put bettas in, and five I would possibly consider, but probably wouldn't use. Which means... uh yeah. I can have more bettas this summer! My sister is moving out, so we're going to use her room as my bedroom/fish room, since it is the only room in the house with climate control.
I don't think I'll fill ALL of those tanks with bettas, because I want to take care of them right. But I want one ten gallon for my male plakat, and one for my female, when I get them. Then, I'll probably move the fish in the hex tank to one of the 3 rectangulars, and use the remaining two for bettas. So, I'm thinking maybe I'll consider adopting two breeder's rejects/"cull" fish? I know people post them here a lot, so if any of you that are willing to ship have and them around June, I'll be in touch! I don't really care what they look like, or what type they are; I just want to give two bettas a home without supporting some craptastic pet store.
Yay. I'm all excited about this potentially betta-ful summer.
