Shafts are easy to come by, its just a question of who would have one locally. LFS wont dissect a new filter for the reasons you suggest. You will probably just have to go mail order (next day delivery if you can swallow the cost).

I have a very good relationship with my LFS. I gave them about 50 mollie fry about 2 weeks ago, there selling them for £2.95 each or 4 for a Tenner!!!!

I hope they agree its a worthy corse!!!!

any half decent lfs should have impeller shafts for the fluval range
i always keep spare shafts for all my filters in the fish cupbord for emergencies

Thought i'd update with my latest filter news.

As i expected my LFS didn't have any ceramic impeller poles in stock. However, as i stated above they very kindly allowed me to dismantel a brand new 305 and steal it for the mean time! 2 weeks lead time for a spare!
