Hi all,

Doctor says I need to cut down on my stress, told me to buy an aquarium for my desk at work. So I bought a 2 Gallon Marineland Explorer and was wondering what I should put in it. I'm new to this and would like some guidence. If it works out, I will be buying a bigger tank for my home.

Thanks

Hi ,welcome to the forum!

Good thing you asked first because it may have increased your stress if you overloaded a small tank :p

2 gallons is pretty small for most tropical fish. So...I HAVE to suggest a betta :D , a 2 gallon is absolutely perfect for a betta  . They're extremely hardy, they don't require heaters if the room stays pretty warm (anywhere above 68F) and they're VERY people friendly  , once they warm up to you they'll eat right out of your hand. They're not scaredy cat fish at all! compared to some fish...who freak out and try to hide if you look at them  a betta will swim up to the glass and look right back at ya :kira:

I'm sure you'd be pleased with one

There's a pinned article that explains cycling a tank. You won't have any problems with that though, bettas usually cycle tanks well. But you can also use pure ammonia to cycle your tank and get it ready for your fish (that takes around 10 days, all info is in that article titled "avoiding new tank syndrom (sp?)"

Good Luck & have fun!!! Fish Keeping is a blast!

I have to agree a betta would be perfect for a 2 gallon tank.

I'd suggest you do a fishless cycle on your tank, save the fish uneeded stress :) This can take 4-6 weeks (on average) That gives plenty of time to do research, research, research.

Good luck with your new tank :D
