Alright, so i arrived home yesterday and put 3 abino cory cats into my 10g with my Betta and 4 Danios.

The catfish are great, and everyone in the tank gets along however the catfish.. they just dont stop. They're anything but bottom feeders! They swim top to bottom, left to right.. they move around more than my danios if anything.

Are the just excited because of their new home? Will this die down in a few days, and they'll tend to the bottom like good little catfish instead of scaring mr.betta?

I have four corys that chase each other up and down the full length/depth of the tank but also spend time just 'sitting' in darker areas or hiding out in caves/nooks/crannies... does your tank have plenty of hiding places? maybe they are a bit stressed... and a sand substrate - best for the corys delicate barbules...

Yep. Sand. The tank is FILLED with fake plants and rocks too. It's perfect for a catfish. The temp has been up and down, maybe thats why too.

The tank's size may also play a role. Because of their active and social natures, a larger tank makes for calmer, more 'strictly' bottom-dwelling, fish :p 'Albino' cories are usualy the albino variety of bronze cory (c. aeunus) and get quite large and chunky for a cory (2.5" is the usual size).

They will calm down as they get older. Its normal behavior. Mine are probably a year old and still do it from time to time.

Hey don't worry, they sometimes like to stretch their fins. I have a single cory (non-albino) and he does the same thing, he really gets a kick outta chasing my Zebra Danios around the driftwood in the tank. Im no expert, but it seems that if fish are happy with their surroundings, they will be far more active.

yeh it seems quite normal with albino corys. Every batch we get in at work are much more active than any other species of corydoras.

Ben

ok cool thanks guys.

2.5" eh? Gonna get a lil crowded :p

Corys are great. Unfortunately my 6 year old cories have been burned by anti fungal meds that the petstore said would be ok to use in the tank with them. Hopefully they live.

The new albinos sure are cute, they're tiny too. just over 3/4 of an inch in size.

Also they will dart to the surface for air. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOUR OXYGEN LEVELS ARE LOW. They just do it as a reflex. :)

It is like a reflex! It's so funny to see one do it and all of a sudden see all the others doing it too. It reminds me of when someone yawns and everyone else finds them doing the same thing. :D

Are you using standard play sand or do you need to buy something special?
