I have 2 tanks, a 5 gallon and 10 gallon. Seeing as how my dwarf puffers eat their snails so quickly, I put some snails into my other tank with my guppy, tetra, and dwarf gourami. Is that okay? They won't cause harm to my other fish will they?

I just need a reliable source for snails, I hate bothering the LFS for them so often.

Also, do dwarf puffers actually eat the snail shells?? b/c I thought they just sucked the snails out. I put some snails in one day, noticed the puffers sucking on them, but then the next day all the shells were gone.

the snails shouldn't bother your other fish. if you have live plants in there, you may not have them for long. i do the same thing, i keep my snails in my fry tank so i can find them easier. the puffers actually break the shell to get at the snail and that process helps to keep their beaks filed down. you probably don't see the shells becuase they've been broken up so.

It took my guys shell weeks to dissolve to a state where I had to remove it. I found its dead body out of it's shell, but I don't think it was attacked.

Are you sure you want to put in multiple snails? If they mate, you'll have a serious problem. Not to mention if they are asexual!

Depending on what type of snails, you should have no problem. I put snails in my fry tanks to help keep it clean, but I only have the little pond snails. And, mine don't eat the plants. Never bother them.

Not only do they help in hoovering up the bottom (fry can be so messy  ), but they multiply so I have fresh, live food for my Loaches :D (who live in other tanks).

HTH :)
