Everyone here says don't flush a dead fish down the loo/toilet/wc because it may spread disease to fish in the waterways, but what about everything else that goes down the loo, surely that is much worse? Especially the chemicals that people use, surely all the fish in the sewers are dead anyway??

I think the argument behind this advice is that it may be possible for bacteria/parasites from other parts of the world to survive the water cleaning process and infect/become established in the local environment. Remember - the water doesn't stay in the sewers forever.

you wouldn't flush your dog down the loo when it died. Err alright bad example....

Replace dog with hampster

Who would hate their fish enough to flush it anyways? the only fish I ever lost I cremated then I buried .
You flush your fish and that means you "hate" it?

...I can't say I agree with that. I flushed my very first zebra angelfish baby when she died. I certainly didn't hate her....she was just dead. Unfortunately, she died from my ignorance, but I digress....

I love all my bettas and my two angelfish babies and if they should die, I'd probably flush them. Well, maybe not now since it appears that it could be harmful to the water. (I didn't know that...thanks for the info, BTW). But, I wouldn't want to cremate my fish, either. That doesn't make me evil. :sly:

You see, it has nothing to do with hate. It has to do with how you think about things. For instance, I see a dead body as nothing more then an empty corpse. Whatever living spirit, or soul, or whatever might be in a living body is gone, so it doesn't matter what you do with it.

Maybe you could eat the fish and it can take part of you with it down the toilet -_- :D

  Well said! I see things exactly as you do. :D

Thats kind of how i feel, the soul has left the body and all that, it's the only way I could cope with our cat dying last weekend. otherwise i couldn't have seen the body and buried her

Why would you cremate it? It seems like it would be rather mean to throw a fish, who lives its entire life in the water, into the fire after death.
