I was wondering if we could change the name of Tropical Discussion back to Tropical Chit-Chat. It just seems soo much friendlier. Also, we have a Tropical fish emergencies. But, I noticed the SW people don't have one, I figuerd they may want one too.

You should speak to Inchworm, this topic is right up her street

Hi kribensis12 :)

Thank you for bringing this subject up. I like the old name better too. I'll bring it up in the Mod's forum and maybe they will consider changing it back. I hope they do. :D

Some of the newer members might not know it, but we used to have interesting names for some of the other sections as well. Catfish was called Catfish Cradle, and Plants and Planted Tanks was called How Does Your Garden Grow. Oddball's Institute is the only section with it's original unique name.

Catfish Cradle is a cool name. I like it. There is nothing wrong with going back to the old names. How does your Garden grow may mislead people into thinking it's a non-aquatic graden forum.

TCC gets my vote too - much more friendly. :good:

the old names sound much more friendlier and inviting, but they still need to be on topic if they were to change. I am mainly referring to the planted section here ;)

I dont see why we need friendly names, its a forum!, here for a reason, to inform people and bring together people in the hobby, next thing we will see is fields of flowers and dancing unicorns jumping all over our screens when we log on, and pink backgrounds, with little bows  I think the new name is fine, it does what its supposed to, tell people what section of the forum it is- tropical discussion, 2 words, nothing hard to understand at all.

I would have to agree with Ad although not in quite the same tone  I prefer the more formal names :good:

I think a mix of formal with friendlyness would do good

i do like chit chat better though.

how about a poll on each section with the original and current names to get people to vote what they think.

Your example was blowing things a bit out of porportion. I highly doubt that changing a forum name is going to lead to " fields of flowers and dancing unicorns jumping all over our screens when we log on, and pink backgrounds, with little bows ". So, Tropical Chit-Chat doesn't display the purpose of the forum? Chit-Chat and Discussion have nearly, if not the same meaning. One sounds a whole lot friendlier. I agree, a forums main function is to inform and bring people together, how does making the name more friendly, disrupt this function? It doesnt. I think your argument needs some work.
