Hi, I've got 2 quick questions.

1. Are half-moon bettas always supposed to have their caudal fins at 180 degrees, even when not flaring, or do they only have their 180 degree fins when they are flaring or displaying?

2. For my betta sorority 10 gallon I'm making, I decided to get terra-cotta pots from Micheal's and break them to make them look... more natural? Will the broken edges be too sharp for the female bettas' fins, or will it be OK? The edges aren't jagged, but they're kind of rough.

I would say that halfmoons only have their fins at 180 when they're flaring or displaying. I have a delta, and he's certainly not got his fins spread all the time.

You can sand down the pots using a metal work file. :) You definitely should do a pantyhose test on them, just to be sure they're not too rough. Girly fins are just as easy to tear as male fins are, they're just not as long.

I didn't have a metal work file, but you gave me an idea. I just used a nail file, and it worked pretty well. They came out pretty smooth(the nail file, however, was ripped to shreds) and they passed the test. So I guess they're ok. Thanks.

You can also use aquarium sealant to seal sharp edges
