just a questioin for all you overflow people

Hi there everyone!
I just bought a 230 gallon with an overflow system built into it, so we decided to try it since is was already there.
I am really impressed so far with it, except the noise level that is generates from water dropping into the overflow tank (above the bioballs).
I was going to encase the overlfow system in styrofoam, since the cabinets will not be done for a while, the tank is just on a metal frame ATM.
If anyone has any more ideas, they would all be appreciated.
It is a fresh water (no matter what Aqua and Nav say) and therefor is no skimmer.

I had the noise from that aswell so i wacked a layer of sponges there and hey presto no more noise apart from the water dropping into the weir.

i used a triple layer of sponges sold for pond filters
