I went to a not so local fish shop today because they have a wider (yet still small) range of plecs.

They had these ones (well they looked like these)...

and they were just called Plecs.....is that right?

They were about 2-3inches and cost $40 each.

Is there a such thing as just a plec?

Ones just called plecs are usually just one of the species known as common plecs
most of the commons in my local area seem to be Pterygoplichthys pardalis,
although the ones you saw could well have been Hypostomus punctatus (like the one in the image)

not really, they're just your basic monster plecs, some will only grow a foot whilst others like Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps can and do get to 2 feet long

I tell ya! Australia has the weakest selection of plecs!!!

In the lfs's all we mainly have is Albino's and BN's.

Over in WA they seem to have a wider selection, but nobody wants to ship them interstate!

Even something as simple as a peppermint is like finding a needle in a hay stack!

Not sure I would completely agree with WA having a wide selection, there is an ok-fairly decent selection but still not great :(. I am not sure what is available in the eastern states but our range here is still not as extensive as I would like it to be.

Where have you heard that has a good selection in WA? I would love to check out what they have if I have not been there already.
