Hi everyone

I was thinking about keeping a Betta in a bowl (at least a gallon (US) but probably more).

Does anyone in the UK keep a Betta this way without a heater or filter?

I'm not sure whether I would get a samll tank or bowl. I think I would prefer a bowl, due to space but this would look a bit funny with heaters\filters etc coming out of it.

Obviously I would do regular water changes etc......

I live in the north-west of england. Is the temperature warm enough during the winter to support him?

Cheers
Andy.

I wouldn't recommend keeping a Betta without a heater. They like to have a constant temperature and with UK weather being what it is, it's pretty hard to sustain it.
My Bettas have filtration but there are a few members who keep theirs without one and have no problems. Keep in mind, that the water changes will need to be done 2-3 times a week if you choose not to have a filter.

I always use heaters. Even if I am totaly skint with no money left, Ill borrow that extra tenner to get the heater. Its lovely and warm in the summer days but the temp can drop between 5 and 12 degrees sometimes at night and thats not good for our fishies friends.

Heater all the way :good:

you could shop around for a cheap 25watt thats about 6incha dn hav that in there.Other than that go for a tank.

i keep my betta in an 8 gallo without a heater or filter. but i keep my betta in my attick, which is really hot. its beside some of my reptiles. but i wouldnt keep a betta in a bowl. i think its a shame!

i don't have a heater or filter in any of my 2 either, at night i just wrap their tanks in a thick towel to help keep them warm, during the day if its cold i leave i light on near them, haven't had any problems

I live in the Uk and heat both my betta tanks, my 21L (acrylic tank) and heater cost £25 in total from LFS and my boy is very happy in it. The other lives in a 28L 18x10x10 and it seems a great size very neat and compact but gives him plenty of room to swim Total set up heater, filter and glass tank £22 second hand 3months old. If you hunt some bargains your betta could live in luxury!

Wilko's do 11 Litre vivariums/aquariums for £4.99 with lid :)

you could get a 1 foot tank divide it and have 2 bettas kin then it would be easy to heat it :good: a shop near me sells heaters £10 for any watt's
