So, I was at wal mart the other day and saw Jungle Start Zyme, which is supposedly supposed to jump start your cycle. It even claims on the bottle to use it once a month for an established tank. I have never used it, and all of my tanks are already cycled. But I was curious as to what everyone's thoughts were on this product?

Thanks!

Forget this product. If you need bottle nitrifying bacteria, use Dr. Tim's One and Only or Tetra's Safe Start as a second choice. If you decide to use either of these products, both have sites you can visit for thorough directions for how to them. Follow them to the letter.

I personally would not use this product.  I will explain.

First, concerning bacterial supplements to "cycle" a new tank.  Some of these will quicken the cycling time, to some degree, depending upon the bacteria they contain.  I've no idea as to what "enzyme-producing bacteria" strains may be in this product.  If you want to use a reliable bacterial supplement, get a bottle of Dr. Tim's One and Only.  Another useful product is Tetra's SafeStart, which does not instantly cycle but will speed up the cycling.  These products still require you to cycle the tank, just follow the instructions.

My second comment has to do with this "breaks down organic sludge build-up."  I avoid any such products.  Once your tank is cycled, it will then become established over a few weeks.  At that point, it has various natural biological processes running, and provided you do not overstock, overfeed, or otherwise somehow mess up the biological system, nature will do all this work and better.  Water changes with substrate vacuuming help.  Live plants help too.

I really don't know how these products break down sludge without producing ammonia, as that is the natural process, but in my humble opinion they are likely more trouble than help if they interfere with nature.

Byron.

I would avoid this product too as well to be honest.

There is a high possibility that it will be, as Byron already mentioned, more trouble than its worth.

The two products TwoTankAmin and Byron have named, Dr Tims and TSS are proven to work and actually contains the right types of bacteria needed in starting a cycle provided instructions are followed to the letter.

Another method is using media from one of your other established tanks (if you have other tanks ;) )  is a good way in kick starting a fishless cycle.

And for the more experienced keeper, a 'silent cycle' can be carried out providing you know what to look for and have enough relevant plants.

Failing these, doing a Fishless Cycle from scratch is no bad thing, just takes a while longer.

Thank You all for the input! Like I said, my tanks are already cycled, not overstocked, and fish are all healthy

So I wouldn't have any need for this product. I was just genuinely curious about it since I had never seen something like this before! Thanks for the input! (Also, these are not my pictures, I got them off of google!)
