Jumbo Betta?

When people come over to my apartment they freak when they see my betta "moses". They say he's the biggest betta they've ever seen. His body alone (minus fins) is 2.5 inches from nose to the beginning of his tail fin. (That's 6.5 cm for all you metric fans). Is this size possible for your standard betta or is he a special breed? I got him as a gift about 18 months ago, so I don't know what he was sold as. If he is a "Jumbo" what's he worth moneywise?

2.5 inches sounds like just a large betta to me... there is such a thing as a giant betta, but as of this time the vast majority of them are plakat and they're generally 3 inches or more

Hmmm -- well he's definetly not a plakat--- his fins are like a mile long.

I love your bettas Synirr -- very gorgeous "collection" (I hate to call it a collection, after all bettas aren't like stamps or coins)

My LFS sells "Giants"... sounds about the right size. Plakat and long-finned ones too.

He could be giant...or he could just be old. Do you recall how big he was when you get him?

he was about an 1.75 inches (Just the body).

Nevermind... I was just curious. Someone was over today and for the umpteenth time I got this "Oh my god" reaction. So not knowing diddly about bettas I thought I'd pose the question.

My friend also has a "monster" betta.
I about flipped when I saw how hugemongous he is compared to my bettas.
In looking at this photo, keep in mind that his fins ARE the regular length of a regular betta. It's just that his MOSNTROUS body dwarfs them.

He's probably pushing a good 2.5 inches front to back (body alone) and you can see just how high from bottom to top he is.
On one of his sides, his scales have even started growing oddly (all weird rather than in straight lines) - and we can't figure out if it's cuz he's so big or what.

Hey, Moses looks very much like that betta --- color and all. His fins are so lavishly long though that it seems he has a difficult time swimming--as if they are soooo heavy that it's just better to sit on his bonsai tree and watch me type.
