I currently have three freshwater tanks which I love.
I now have an empty 10 gallon tank and am debating making it a marine tank, maybe a couple of small clown fish for my kids (Nemo Fever at my household).
Is 10 US gallons to small???
Will my freshwater equipment work??? (power filters etc)

Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you in advance

Saltwater is a very costly and time consuming hobby... more so than fresh water. If you want to have healthy, happy fish, live rock (cured) and live sand are highly recommended as primary means of filtration. A ten gallon would be okay, but I wouldn't put more than one clownfish in there. Saltwater fish need more "gallons per inch" than freshwater fish because they use the oxygen up quicker and expel more ammonia. The general rule is 1in of fish per 4 gallons of water. True percula clowns grow to be about 3in, false percula clowns grow to be about 4in. So, either way, you can see that just one fish would push the limit. I would read up on saltwater a lot before trying it. Please don't let any people at the pet stores talk you into starting up a tank until you've researched it. Read the pinned topics in the different saltwater sections. That will give you a good idea of what's involved. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :)

If you approach this sensibly then it can be done. With your exsisting setup its not possible and as has been mentioned, a single clwon is all you could hope for.
However, if you have a large cannister filter that can hold an extra 2 or 3 gallons then you can add this extra water volum to the tank and it might just be possible. Clowns dont need alot of room for swimming as they rarely move far fromtheir territory, its the filtration thats important so liverock is your main expense here.

Before you do go ahead though, please please do not purchase an anemone as it just wont go in a tank with this equipment.

You need lots of circulation for your tank, so if you have any freshwater powerheads then these can be used.

Personally, even with an extra annister filter, i would feel happier just keeping a single clown rather than a pair in a tank this size but if you research and ask questions on here before you make a purchase then it will help you a great deal. As mentioned, dont listen to your local shops too much as i have found many of them our out for cash and dont care about their custoers and livestock. there are many experienced keepers here and we are all only too willing to assist if we can

good luck in your experience in saltwater. I've barely stopped cycling my tank so I can't offer any advise, all I can say is Navarre and 3fsh have helped me along this far. I'd listen to what they say. I don't know what kind of aquariast (is that a word? lol) you are but I tend to be kind of conservative and all their so called expertise ( :fun: ) has gotten me this far. Good luck
