hey all, ive been a green keeper for 3 years now thats working on golf course, and have had a sudden urge to try something different wether its working in an office or what, what do you guys do for a living? just want to try something new.

I work at McDonalds, part-time whilst I am at College, I've worked at Maidenhead aquatics and Pets at home also.

I work for MIB, I police alien activity on earth. B-)

I work for Rockmapton Regional Council as a Gardener and even though I have an Associate Diploma in Applied Science - Horticulture I really don't have much need for it working where I do as if I rattle off an scientific name of a plant I usually just get blank stares in return. My husband is a sales clerk for ONE STEEL, hence my all steel framed 5m x 4m x 2m bird aviary.

LOL! i too am a council gardener and was trained in green keeping and amenity horticulture. Shame i don't get to use my qualifications much as we are always doing rush jobs and with the budgets getting slashed by as much as they are, the job tickets are coming more for less. We now get twice as many but half the time to do them hence the lack of time being spent on each job and the job being done sub-standardly... Some what aggrovated by it, but there is not alot we can do about it. I don't think i would enjoy an office job long term though.

We have had a spate of managers who have all had varying degrees of horticultural knowledge (and even worse people skills) and most of them couldn't organise a bun fight in a bakery, we are always getting pulled off jobs to do rush jobs for functions they know come around every year on exactly the same date. We are slowly ending up with less and less ground staff and more and more office bodies while at the same time getting more and more recently developed housing estate park land dumped on us. So in effect the areas we look after keep geting bigger and further apart (so more travel time between jobs through even busier traffic thanks to all the extra people in the region), while our managers wont put on any more staff and expect us to maintain all of our areas to the same standard that was acheived when we had more staff and less area.Totally frustrating :shout: , that and the fact that usually any new ideas or planting schemes that staff might want to do is almost always just ignored. At least at home I can have my gardens how I want them with the plants I like and :p to same old same old plants that every Tom dick and Harry has in their yards.

I am a mortgage adviser and worked in financial services for 9 years.

I want out and am studying computer programming but its going to take years as you basically HAVE to have a degree to get into it now.

To be honest I would do anything that would pay me the same as what I am on now, but after 9 years in it and no other experience, there is no other jobs that would pay me the same :(

I've worked as a Clerk, Cleaner and am currently studying to be a Civil Engineer.
