Hi all,

I've come home this evening to find that the lights in my Jewul Rekord 800 tank have stopped working...

When you switch them on the glow for about a second and then they go out/off. This rules out the fuse as the problem or else there would be no glowing at all.

I'm hoping it's not a problem with the ballast as that seems like a big job...

Does anyone know how long the warranty lasts on the Juwel tanks cos the just is only about 8months old.

Can anyone suggest anything to try?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Just noticed that I've spelt Juwel wrong all the way through!

As long as it's not the tubes then the guarantee in the UK is 1 year.

My first stop would be contacting either the supplier or direct to Juwel (they are pretty good at sorting out problems as they have had a lot of practice! :hey: )

I guess it could be a poor electrical contact in the rocker switch. Do you hear any arcing from the switch as the light goes out? I replaced the switches on both my Rekord 600 and 800 for this reason.

I had what sounds like exactly the same problem and for me it was the switch. My dad just took it of and rewired the other end of the wire straight into the plug so i just take that in and out of the socket instead of using a switch

Oooooh... interesting! I had noticed that the switch makes a crackling noise! Maybe it is the switch then.

I just got an email back from Juwels UK Distributor who advised that the lighting hoods have a 24month warranty so I'll see if I can get it replaced from where I bought it from as its only 8months old.

Just a little update -

I went into the World of Water that I purchased my tank from and they said that if I bring in the Hood they will test it with some other tubes to make sure that they are not the problem. If the problem is not with them then they will replace it under warranty, just need to find the receipt! :good:
