Basically, I have a Jewel Rekord 120 tank and I have a problem with my filter. I have to change the white (top) filter pad weekly, but recently, the flow from the filter dies right down after about 2 days. I change the white filter pad and it increases but then dies again 2 days later.

Any ideas of what the problem could be? I don't want to have to change this filter pad every 2 days or it will cost me a fortune! My tank is 5 weeks old and fully cycled as water levels have stabilised.

I have got the exact same problem! However, my filter for my Juwel 120 is about 2 years old. I took the powerhead out and gave it a good clean with an old tooth brush. That seemed to help for a bit so maybe you could try that? Sorry I can't be more helpful :/

Hi Bex,

I had a similar problem with my one of my Juwel 180's.

Firstly tried cleaning out the bottom of the filter box when I next did a water change to get some of the gunk out of the bottom of it, but didn't really make much difference, so in the end just upgraded the pump to a slightly higher output (from 600lph to 1000lph in my tank), think it would be from 400lph to the 600lph pump in yours - worked a treat.

Kim :)

in the smaller jewels, the pumps are rubbish.the white filter does get blocked up really easily though.you can get a large sheet of pond white filter material in a large sheet from your lfs.it is a lot courser and doesnt block up so quickly.i just cut it to size.i use it on both of our jewel tanks.one tank is a rio 240 and the other one is a rekord 72.

Now now folks!,

Lets not get too paranoid about filter flow :hey: As long as the filter is established, and it is turning over water at a reasonable rate, it will be fine. I class reasonable as around two thirds of the 'new' or 'cleaned out' flow level. Hey, even a little less than that is ok too. Just as long as its not too low a turnover. The Juwel filters are OK, but just about any tank will benefit from a good external. Those white pads clog up really quick, I was changing mine every day when I had my messy cichlids in there..... Eheim 2213 anybody?

sub.
