Howdy everyone,
I run an 80 litre tropical tank with an undergravel system. I previously ran it as a coldwater tank with the same set up and had crystal clear water always. However, I opted for dark granulate substrate this time instead of small pebbles and I think it is proving more difficult for the fish string (if you get my drift!) to sink between the granules.
Initially I had one uplift tube with airstone, I added a second to make the system symmetrical, and although the water is clear, it's not as crystal as I'd like. The pump is powerful and of a higher spec than my tank requires.
I've just seen a pump attachment that basically replaces the airstone, and actively sucks the water up the uplift pipe, aireates it and shoots it back into the tank. Has anybody had any success with this system?
I think my fish would enjoy the water flow and benefit from the extra oxygen. I just think it might stir up the muck without sucking it down again and I'd be back where I started!
I know people may suggest a biological filter, but I don't want to replace the whole thing just yet...!
Any thoughts gratefully received!
Thank you!
