Resurrecting the Passion of Fishkeeping
Did a rescape this weekend (finally!!!)
My goldies love munching on my live plants, especially the leaves of the lilies - they shred them with joy!
So to get that lush look I have been craving but unable to obtain due their gardening attempts, I added in a bunch of silk plants. Most found at either the dollar store or Michaels Craft Store. All soaked with a mild bleach rinse. Obviously only silk plants, no glitter, feathers etc. If wiring was inside I made sure it was either stripped out or 100% covered by the silk plant material. I have aquarium safe sealant on hand just in case.
Once they were all washed and trimmed to my satisfaction, I dove in.
And just a bit of added info on my tank - 72 gallon bowfront, filtered with two Penn Plax Cascade 1500s. I know that I am pushing the stocking limits a bit but one was unexpected so now I am dealing with the stocking levels - one may be rehomed if I can't figure out an upgrade by the winter.
Current stock is 6 goldfish,
Color/type, weight, name =
1 one white/black spotted fantail 28g "Domino",
1 one orange/black spotted fantail 27g "Merlin",
1 orange oranda 25g "Bubbles",
1 blackmoor 38g "Velvet" ,
1 orange/white ryukin 36g "Prince",
1 black/bronze lionhead 9g "Wonton".
Here is what it looked like in the beginning - all plants in this photo are live plants (Amazon swords, java ferns, red dwarf lilies, Water Sprite and another I can't remember the name of (it's on the right)
And here is the after - still all the same live plants, but now a bunch of silk plants also. My goldfish have gone crazy for it - they love going in and out of the plants.
