I am researching pressurized Co2 kits and have decided to get a JBL kit but first I need to determine if the refillable Profi sets have any advantages over the Easy sets [disposable].

Both the refillable and disposable bottles are 500gm so they hold the same, the only advantage I can see with the refillable ones is that it can be a few quid cheaper to refill. But taking into account actually driving to the lfs to exchange the bottle its actually cheaper and less hassle to get a few disposables.

Any thoughts?

I have gone with the disposible option. Reason being that I can then buy two so I have 1 spare. With a refillable I either have to buy two bottles (expensive) or get it filled the same day it runs out (pain in the arse). The way I see it is that 1 disposible bottle lasts around 2 months and costs £17 so about £100 a year. Refillible bottle costs about £60 and a refil will cost maybe £10 so will costs about the same (at least for the first year). Even if is only costs £5 per refill I'm lazy enough to pay an extra £30 a year.

If I could do it again though I would have got a regulator with a more standard fitting so I could then use either fire extigishers or industrial CO2 bottles.

Which system/reg did you get?

JBL easy set 1 and got the solonid seperate (some German make).

It works for me but if you get one I would recommend you get a bubble counter and decent diffusor as well.

If you look in the Yellow Pages, you should be able to find a distributor of CO2 for the welding and/or food industries. I can get 3kg of CO2 for £5. I only rent the cylinders for £10, which I will get back when I return the cylinder, so the only real outlay is for the CO2 itself.

Provided you can find a CO2 retailer, and London should be full of them, refillable cylinders will work out cheaper IME.

Dave.

I would suggest getting a disposable one because if you choose to go refillable you can buy an adaptor. As far as I know its not as easy to go the opposite way!!

Sorry to butt in on your thread, but I am about to get a JBL CO2 (Easy1) set with disposable cannisters. Think they are 500g. When they run out, where can I get the replacements ?

Normally buy most of my stuff from Aquatics on line as my lfs is pretty rubbish, but I can't see that they do replacement cannisters ?

Where can I get them from ?

Aqua Essentials. Can I ask why you chose the easy set 1 and not easy set 2?

They should do. Most disposable bottles are the same small screw on thread.

Someone with a JBL Reg should be able to confirm (I have a welding regulator)

Looks like a good find. Looking at the photos they seem to be exactly the same bottles as the JBL ones.
