I ordered 100g of Java Moss from ebay.

I washed it out in old tank water and have left most of it there untill me and my dad get it sorted.

I have tied a bit down to rocks and such. However, the bulk of the Moss is brown and kind of mushy-looking.

It is to my understanding that Java Moss is practically invincible. So, is this just shipping 'stress'? How long will it take to get back to its lush, leafy green rather than brown mush and is there anything I can do to help it along?

there seems to be a lot of problems with 'ebay' java moss at the moment. Moss also does take some time to adapt in aquariums. I would keep an eye on it for a few weeks and if there's no change, get rid.

I thought java moss would be a nice addition to my tank, so like you, I bought some off ebay. First batch I bought was rubbish, tied it down on bogwood even though it was browning and hoped for the best, all I got in return was a clogged filter and about a fivers worth of moss chucked in the bin. Second batch I bought was lush, however, I'd been left with such a sour taste that I gave it away to the lovely man who bought my old 4ft tank.

When moss takes off, there is no doubt that it looks gorgeous, but for people with lack of patience, like me, it is hard to keep waiting for it to settle and then flourish.

Yeah, I bought some lovely moss and it went all dull and didn't grow at all... I think it just takes time to adjust. As I have too much of it now! If it fails though try tropica or aquefleur :good:

I also bought some Java Moss off Ebay, (Last Trading Post - great seller). It was a little bit brown when I got it in the tank but I think I can get a recovery out of it. It's my first time with Java Moss and I've got to say, I much prefer Christmas Moss.

So do I, I have both and I much prefer the look of the Christmas moss. Maybe it's because my Christmas moss is flourishing, but my Java moss is still not looking happy (IMO).

I got mine from him.

And I'm really not impressed. It's just brown mush horrible mess. Haven't left feedback yet as I wanted to get advice from you guys.

Will try tying half of it down to a rock or bogwood with a net and putting it in my dads tank. hopefully it will take off in there.

So take a picture and email it to them and tell them that brown mush is not what you paid for!

I agree with Cazzie, let the trader know and give them a chance to sort the problem out before leaving negative feedback.

I've bought a lot of plants from Last Trading Post too and never had any problem with the condition of them on delivery. I would definately use this seller again.
That said if you have received plants that don't meet the standard you expect you should definately get in touch with them rather than jumping straight to the negative feedback.
Also if you do want java moss you could probably get some from the classfieds on here. That's what i did and it's growing well and came at a reasonable price.

I don't think I was clear. I never intended to leave Negative feedback as I was always sure the poor quality wasn't his intention. I wanted to ask this boards opinion on the state of the Moss and it's potential before I contacted him or considered leaving feedback (positive/neutral).

I have contacted Last trading post and told him I was disappointed and asked him for his advice on what to do. Without asking, he told me to leave it for a week or so and then contact him for a replacement batch if nothing improves. He also offered cold weather as the reason for the drop in quality, which I can believe.

No, the item was sent out quickly and I don't believe he intentionally sent a bad product so he was never in danger of negative feedback...but his customer service has reinforced that.

Oh no!

I just bought some from - http://shop.ebay.co.uk/winezita1971/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25

It looks lush and green so far (after one hour of playing)

Did yours look poor from the start?

Here is mine after an hour

Now I am worried too! Lots of negative ebay talk

Your's is lovely and healthy. Far from what mine came as. Mine look like crap you'd expect to find at the bottom of a swamp lol.

I must heavily recommend Last-Post though. Despite my plants being of poor quality, which I do not believe were his intentions, his customer service has got to be the best I have ever found on eBay from a power seller.

you would probably be cheaper and get a better quality of plants from members on this site.

cheers
