The java Fern is turning red/brown on the older leaves. I'm wondering if it's the light thats too bright. Apart from the two leaves that are going brown the rest of the plants younger leaves are growing well. I'm wondering if when they get older they will go brown and looks like dying.

I would suggest that is a nutrient deficiency. The light should not be too intense as well, but bright light usually results in problem algae on the leaves. So this is more likely nutrient-related. Older leaves do not die off much with this plant, at least mine never have.

When I first got mine (petco) the original leaves eventually died off one by one, but I have not lost any that have grown back since (3+ years).
