Why would a jardini arrowana suddenly start bashing its head on the top of the tank? :(

maybe because those fish are totally insane, how big is it?how bigs the tank?the first thing i do if a fish starts acting strangely test the water :good:mine used to bash into the glass everytime anyone went near

I've heard that arowana are very skiddish of quick movement when they are juveniles. I guess that would make them jump and hit their head. Also, I think they are naturally able to jump out like that. They will eat insects on the surface and maybe they naturally can jump out of the water a little to try and catch the insect that is trying to fly away. It might be seeing a shadow on the lid and trying to jump and get it thinking that its an insect.

well on friday the arrowana was insanely jumping and bashing its head.......not that much of a juvenile,as we've had him a fair old while( probably had him for 18 months. )
He was fine saturday morning...... then we went away for 1 whole night.!!!!! Came back, and it looked like he had grown somewhat!
Woke up this morning and he was dead!!

DEAD?????? omg I'm sorry. Have you checked the water par's? I don't know why he would do that. Is there another fish in the tank that would harass him? or should I say big enough to harass him?

:/ water params are fine, no other fish that he has never been able to deal with before in the tank. This is so much making us want to give it all up.....so fed up!!

Don't give it up. I mean i do feel your pain, both emotion and financial. Thats really weird how he just killed himself.

EDIT: Was he in your 300G (i think thats what it was) that you posted pics of before?

i know arrowanna also eat small birds and bats by jumping out of water.

what size tank was he in?sometimes a tank not big enough will make them do that.also i know there are a few diseases and parasites for arrows that cause them to go crazy.i know of a parasite that drills its way into their head and causes them to go crazy

He was in the 300g. 8'x2.5'x2'.Tank is not the same without him.Bought the tank for him really!!
