i recently purchased a jaguar catfish. i've been reading up on them, and i know that they like to spend their time hiding under rocks/driftwood etc. there is this one rock however, that i have in my tank. it's not really a rock, but its one of those plastic pieces that you can buy from the store. it's sort of shell shaped, being smaller at the bottom and getting larger towards the top. \|/
looking down at it, it would sort of look like (_)(_) (no im not trying to draw breasts)
well one night i watched it swim in from the top. he went straight down one of the (_) cavities. i didnt think anything of it, until i awoke the next morning, and he was still in the same place.
i reached in and shook the rock, trying to get him to swim away from it. but it didnt move. i pulled the rock out of the water and still the fish wouldnt move.
i petted the fish and still it wouldnt budge.
i didnt know what to do, so i took the thin trunk of a fake palm tree and slid it underneath him as gently as possible. it seemed as if his fins were lodged in and couldnt slip out. after a couple minutes i finally got him loose and set him free back into the aquarium.
all was good, i left the rock out of the water, but what do you know, here he goes and does it again in a completely different rock.
i want to know if i am over exagerating and the fish knows not to get stuck, or was it just fooling me and could get out of there the whole time?
i know they like rocks and all, but im afraid to keep any in there, thinking he'll get stuck again, and i wont be able to get him out without hurting it.
