I really would have thought that he'd have eaten one by now, but he hasn't. Sometimes it seems as tho they just like messing with each other. If its not the Jag picking on the yo-yo, its the yo-yo picking on the jag. Its really a trip to watch them
And I had no idea these yo-yo's would grow sooooo fast
which is a good thing cause I'd bet the Jag has grown at least .5" already. :hooray:

Don't hold your breath on this one. I can promise you that combo wont last long, especially if the jag is a male. Just give the jag time. Whats the jags size as of now??

:D

Nothing will live in that tank with the Jag. Once he gets hungry or po'd at them he will take them out.

Try not feeding him for a week and see. lol He'll liquidate anything in there.

BTW, I hope you are the one feeding him and not your hubby. Remember what I said when you got him? Cichlids know the one that feeds them, how, I have no clue, and they don't usually like anyone else. Make sure that "one" is you! :D

Edit: Of course, if he sees this, I'm just joking. :D

Yes, SMB. I am faithfully following your advice and I am the one who feeds him (as well as all the other fish in the house  )
He has definately grown since we got him. Wild guess, he's probably 3.5 to 3.75" already!
Once he got comfortable in his new home he comes out and watches me all the time. He no longer runs and hides when I approach the tank and will even remain at the top of the tank as I open the lid and put food in. And he's fascinating to watch when I give him small feeders. He plays with them and snaps them up, then spits them out and then finally he'll bite them in half! He's an amazing fish.

Yes jags are amazing fish, and they only get more amazing as they grow into adulthood, but along with the grace and poise as it ages comes more aggression and less tolerance of other living organisms within its designated domain. Male jags, doviis, and umbees are the Mauraders of the freshwater fish world. You just don't mess with them :D.

You are so right optix. I think that was part of the appeal. My husband is the one who just had to have this guy. The one I just had to have was my Green Terror. But I have found that I am enchanted by this guy.

What year TA do you have? I have an 87 IROC-Z myself. LOVE my car!!!!!

ITS NOT GONNA LAST LONG AS SOON AS THE JAG STARTS TO GET BIGER THAN HIM HE WILL RIP HIM TO SHREDS

Wait till it gets as big as "Cupcake".
Try putting in a few redhook silver dollars, I have 3 and they don't seem to get too bothered.
I also have a 6" spotted Raphael in as clean up.
Anything large and fast will be ok if you introduce it now while the Jag is small. When you do add anything it's an idea to rearrange the tank so the Jag does'nt feel too top doggy.
Here's cupcake at about 13"

Unless your a giant catfish in which case they are all just yummy snacks   :p

Well, just to update since this thread got picked back up...........
I did a water change on the tank and lost all 3 of the yo-yo's as a result. I ran out of chemicals and didn't get more in there fast enough. Currently, and don't anyone throw rocks at me here, the Jag is in a 20g, BUT I bought a 55 today, complete setup including stand for $75! This is going to be the Jag's new home with a Texas. If I can get some more yo-yo loaches, I plan to put 3 more in with them. They are *very* fast and do a good job of cleaning up any left-overs.
I have been hoping to find a 75g but haven't come across one yet. I'm still keeping my eyes open for one, but I'm running out of space for one!
(This makes tank #12, can't imagine why I'd be running out of space, can you? )
