I contacted a rep from Eheim to ask about that North American phenomenon that seems to be plauging us that have bought a new Eheim Jager heater. I asked for the straight dope on whether or not these things are submersible. Most of us assumed correctly about regulations and such... but here's the word from the Eheim Rep...

********
Dear James,

JAGER Heaters are fully submersible according to European standards. However because they are now manufactured in Germany a new UL certificate must be issued for the “Newâ€￾ company. This new certificate must be issued to comply with the North American standards, until then the heater must be labeled as not submersible in North America .

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require further assistance.

Yours truly,

Ernesto Cedeno
