i have had my jack in y 100 gallon tank for the last 3 months...i bought him and a firemouth at the same time, the firemouth has doubled in size but the jack dempsy hasnt growen at all???....he dosnt seem to be eating at all his stool has gone clear and white...so i moved hi into a smaller tank 30 gallon, and now all it does is go up and down in the corner..for the last day and a half anyhow, is this just stress? or a i doing somthing wrong?

What're you feeding your JD? And can you tell us the water perameters ie; Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH? And also tank decor/substrate would be useful. It could be constipated or have an internal infection of some sort.... It certainly sounds stressed and unhappy -_-

White/clear feces is an indication of a possible intestinal problem.

In African cichlids I would say a clear cut case of bloat, but in as much as C/S American cichlids are not prone to bloat, I would say possibly constipated!!

Try adding 1 tablespoon of EPSOM salt for each 5 gallon of water keeping in mind the amount of water displaced by gravel, decor ect.

Dissolve the salt in a small container of tank water prior to adding it to the tank. This should also be added slowly not all at once!!

Pour a little of the salt water in the tank then wait about a half hour, stir the mix and pour a little more in. Do this until all the solution is in the tank.

Also when pouring it in the tank, don't pour it in one spot, but from one end of the tank to the other.

Let us know how things are getting on.

Also, stop feeding the JD for a few days. This will not harm him in the least!!
