I wasn't really trying to breed them, but two of my discus have paired off and laid eggs several times, (always after a water change) but the eggs never seem to get fertilized (I think the male was a bit immature)

But low and behold, the last batched they laid (on a plant leaf) actually hatched. It caught me by suprised, I went to go look to see if they ate them yet, which is what I was expecting and VOILA! I saw the wrigglers.

I moved the parents and the wrigglers into a small tank that I had as a hospital tank and I will see if they actually survive. It will be interesting for sure!

Here are two quick pics I snapped after setting up the nursery. ;)

don't know to much about discus but my brother in law also has a breeding pair

he said it was easy to get eggs and even got them into the fee swimming stage

keeping them alive is another story

if you have better luck keeping the alive than him let me know your tricks and i will pass it on to him

Good luck. Hope they do well

if they survive they should be stunning with two parents like that

wow! Stunning Discus, and congrats with the wrigglers

congrats dude. This is a major goal. you should be over the moon.

From experience, a breading pair will almost always "do the deed" after a water change... simulates a flood in the amazon. Usually it takes them about 10 attempts to get the idea that the area is safe for them to bread... any movement, or any disruption, and bang... into the mouth and end of eggs... so again dude, congratulations.

Thanks everybody.

The update for today is that they wrigglers are now free swimming and actually look like tiny fish.

It is really cool, I hope I can keep them alive. I've bred other fish in the past, but breeding Discus would be an achievement! :hyper:
