i am now saying this aand am not changing my mind: Frank the betta will continue to be just a pet and not a breeder. i did put him in a smaller tank (to see if his eating problem would get better) and i decided to put him next to candy and he acted like she wasnt there. he sit rests. then i put him next to george who was flaring away at him- still the same, just acts like hes not there. he got to be bling or something... there is no other explanation other than i might own the most relaxed betta EVER!

I have a similar Betta that exhibited such behaviors to your's. I would classify him as a relaxed Betta due to the situation my dragon Betta was encountering, due to the scaling if the fish he was mostly blind and seemed to bump into decorations, not notice tank mates, never flares, won't eat very much, and is very skittish when disturbed

well i hope i can get him to eat more. what do you suggest i do for feeding him?

if you just got him i wouldnt feed him for a few days thats what i do mine when i first get them.. they will eventually eat the food you want them to eat cus their hungry
or if you have had him for some time you might have a picky eater o you hands

i have had him for a week or so... he used to eat the worms but now he doesnt. i really do think he is blind. he sits on the bottom and i thought he was dead b/c his gills werent moving. i moved the tank and he did move though.... when i get my last female, i will get another male or 2! :)

he looks fine to me. there is no visible physical damage...hes not bloated or anything like that so i dont know ????

Como, it sounds to me like you have the ideal breeder. I would love to have the hobby develop a Betta splendens that is not aggressive and can be kept with others of its kind. People who supply fighting fish for the fighting sport have dominated the Betta splendens breeding for far too long. They have given us the totally conspecific aggressive fish of today, compared to most wild type bettas. I would love to see less conspecifically aggressive fish that had the nice appearances of today's fish. You could become the main pioneer of just that kind of fish using your placid boy.

Oh my goodness, can you imagine it, a tank full of male bettas

It would be sight to behold
Imagine all those beautiful fish living together.
I doubt it could ever happen, but we can live in hope

Comocrayfish is my hero on this subject. If somehow the breeding can be successful, I would be the first in line to get some of those new bettas.

I'd love to have some peaceful Bettas too
All mine are pretty feisty especially my Pk male, he flares at me all the time, even if I just walk by the tank

i would at least give him a chance of breeding, but he is NOT eating at all. also i have put him next to Candy and i have tested him and put he in a cup inside his tank and- nothing. when i got him at the store, he was flaring at the males. i put him next to George- no flaring, not even a glance. his behavior has changed since i got him. i is oddly unresponsive he never moves his gills (like how they go in and out when they breath) and he just sits at the bottom. trust me he has some kind of problem, hes not just a relaxed fish. if he actually started eating (i doubt it) then i will try him out- and oldman47, if you want to drive to MA to get relaxed bettas then be my guest! ;)
