Poor little Sakana... I changed out the water in his bowl this evening... put some more anti-fungus in it and a small bit of salt... the temp is as low as I can get it without putting ice in the bowl. which I'm afraid would lower it too much. I shined a light on him, and there's a lot more white stuff on him than I thought. and somehow, just within the last couple of hours, he's developed what I can only think could be constipation. He's SO swollen, and he's struggling to swim... he just kinda floats on his side and then tries to swim some more until he gets tired. Even if I knew what to try for him, I couldn't get anything until tomorrow, and I'm afraid that by then it will be too late. :( It breaks my heart to see him struggling to swim........ :-(

I don't know the situation, but have you tried peas for the constipation?

Well, the constipation only popped up in the last hour, and I'm in a college dorm and haven't had time to go get peas yet, and as it's about 11:30 PM, that will have to wait until tomorrow. :( I guess I could see if anyone on my floor has them, but I highly doubt it. :(

Well, I still don't see any poo (he's in a bare bowl, so I would see it if there was any) but he isn't floating over on his side anymore this morning, though the white stuff seems to have gotten worse. :( I am going to try to get to the pet store today and get some meds for columnaris... I can't think of anything else it could be. I just find it odd that neither of the other two bettas in the same tank have it. Maybe I caught it just in time... it was only one tiny spot on Sakana's "chin" when I caught it.

very interesting article!

I am pleased to report that Sakana is doing much better. :D I got some maracyn today, and he pooped last night. The "fuzzy stuff" is almost gone (he only has two VERY small patches left) and he is acting like his old self again. :D

I am glad to hear about the recovery. Just keep treatment up and partial water changes daily and that should clear it up quickly.

hey what does Sakana mean? There's a sushi restaurant here in Washington DC named Sakana. :wizard:

It is simply the Japanese word for "fish."

My fish is named "fish."

:D
