"From bedbugs to toxic moths, the number of pests in UK homes is on the rise. Why is this, and what can be done to curb their populations?
What you read below may not leave you sleeping so easily in your bed tonight - or any night.
From bedbugs and carpet mites to mosquitoes and toxic moths, the insect population in our homes is increasing. We're not overrun just yet, but many of our most common pests have had a good year and a few exotic ones have arrived too.
Experts say pests are now blinking at the edge of the public health radar screen. We only have to look at our European neighbours to see how the problem is escalating. In Belgium, the army had to be called in to tackled an infestation of ticks recently";

Eurgh..."Shivers"...Hate bugs and parasites like that, i'd totally freak out if i found bed bugs in my bed, that would be like one of my worst nightmares! I've heard people have to burn the whole bed and fumigate the affected rooms to kill off such critters.
Tics, leaches, internal parasites like tapeworms etc also all totally freak me out. Although i love wildlife in general and try to keep an environmentally/wildlife friendly garden and all of that, when i was clearing out some pond weed from my pond about a month ago with my hands i accidentally dragged out a huge leach! I saw it squirming on the slate slabs that create a border around my pond, i have to admit i got a stick and killed the leach with it and then buried it. I might love hedgehogs and dragonflys and all of that, but i HATE leaches. Urgh...They freak me out!
Mosquito's aren't so bad, it sucks when they bite you, but as far as general appearances go they don't freak me out as much as some other critters. I've swatted a few mosquito's in my house over the last couple of months, but the mosquito problem hasn't been bad or out of the ordinary here or anything like that this year.
I have noticed a massive increase in slug and snail populations though where i live due to the incredibly dismal and wet summer we've had this year, but only my tomato and sunflower plants have need to fear these critters i guess.
Hate flea's though...Had some bad experiences with those evil little things in the past..."shivers"...
Had no idea how deadly/bad Lyme's disease is though and how you can get it from ticks !
