My tank is 100 gallons with 400 watts of light, it is not heavily planted in the middle where the Rhizoclonium. All that is in the middle is hc and blyxa japonica. Today I did about an 80% water change and tried to remove most of the algae by swirling a tooth brush on it. Also, I upped my co2 a good bit to try to help fight it off. I dose 2 teaspoons of kno3, 1 teaspoon of kh2po4, and 1 teaspoon of csm+b 3 times a week. I started to get this algae about a week ago and kept removing it with a tooth brush but that didnt seem to help, it would grow back almost double in size over night. It is really starting to tick me off. How else can I get rid of the algae?

Are you doing EI ? Also what type of CO2 you using. Is it a stable 30ppm ?

How long is your lighting on for ?

A pic of the tank would help.

yes i am doing EI, i am using pressurized co2, and it is a stable 30 ppm until today when i upped it a little bit. I just measured the co2 and it is at 36 ppm since I upped it. My lights are on 12/12. Here are some photos of the rhizoclonium:

Cause Low CO2. Low nutrient levels. General lack of maintenance.
Removal Increase CO2 levels and check nutrient dosing. Give the tank a good cleaning. Overdosing excel should also clear it. Amano shrimp will eat it.

i dont see how it is general lack of maintence, i do a 50% w/c once a week, and try to remove all algae. i guess i didnt get it one time. but anyways, it is starting to clear up.

Ok, so I figured out why I had rhizoclonium, I wasnt dosing enough ferts and it was a mineral difficeny. I was dosing 1/2 teaspoon of traces and kh2p04 and 2 teaspoons of kno3 3 times weekly. I started to dry does about 1/4 teaspoon of kh2p04 and csm+b as well as 1 1/4 teaspoon of kno3 3 times weekly. With the new dosing schedule the rhizoclonium is subsiding pretty rapidly.
