The mag is made by hagen, and it states on page 12 that you can be able to keep 50-60 medium neon tetras, with a whole bunch of other biotope related fish including a school of corys/otto(8+)....is this because you need to use really powerful filters?? Seems that the tank would be pretty crowded to me, yet they insist that the volume:fish ratio ids just what it is if you go to the wild. Is the amazon really that crowded?

The article is found here:

in reality, there probably are that many neons in that much water space in the amazon, but realize that they can go beyond that amount of space and have more room, they can keep swimming, the water doesnt' end. that and in the wild, the water is constantly moving and being replaced by natural means and therefore doesn't get all toxic, whereas in a tank like that, you'd need mega filtration and excellent maintanence to keep it all good.

there was a thing on t.v. a few weeks ago about piranha's and when the camera was under water the view of the patch of water they were filming was pretty jammed with fish

there was loads n loads of neons in the shot as well as piranha's and cat fish.....i was amazed....but like was said b4 the water was flowing n not stagnant
