is this true bout goldfish?

I'm not sure if it's that bad, but it's definitely bad. They produced the most waste out of all of the fish I've owned, and the bigger the fish, the more the waste. I've heard that you should have at most 1 goldfish pper 10 gallons, and I think that's pretty accurate...

HTH

they are messy little suckers. my gold fish live in the kitchen, and i havent found a plant ive liked to add yet so i am stuck changing the water all the time. infact, the schedule is such that everytime i clean the mouse cage i clean the goldfish tank. so i can at least say they are dirtier then mice :p  :fun:

but plants can reduce the ammonia jesse.in my pond they clear up the water.goldfish will eat the rotting ends of off plants so they are good in a planted tank
jesse so your in alaska i guess its cold there now?
how much are fish there .like a fancy goldfish?

my goldfish have eaten all the live plants i have put in the tank. which is normally hornwart because it overpopulates my other tanks. they were feeder goldfish that i saved from being oscar food, and i think they have very neet personalities but the tank they are in gets very dirty. and i havet found anything that keeps it clean, except me cleaning it.

If someone ask about goldfish on our forum (here in Fin), we recommend to buy at least 300 liters tank for 2-3 fishes. If you buy more, then larger tank. Good filtration but you have to do something to "flowing". If you buy "natural" goldfish, we recommend to buy larger tank already at beginning, because goldfish grow fast. Goldfish isn't either "good fish for beginners", that you have probably heard several times. It isn't true. Goldfish needs more caring than normal tropical fishes..

Goldfish is a messy fish. It eats alot and several times a day (small stomach). You also need to change water often. Every plants aren't good to keep with those fishes. Some of them last, most are eaten.

Goldfish also lives 15-20 years, those mutant creatures.. "Normal" goldsfish can lives couple decades easily even 30-40 years.

How many goldfishes, you know, have lived more than 6 months? People uses to buy goldfishes as easy fishes and put them into small tank (or even into fishbowl!). They are still large and need space, but no way, those people just love to watch llarge fish in a jar and enjoy it. (sadistic!)

Well ive been keepin goldfish for 11 years i dont know where veryone gets this idea that there really messy because there not!!

hello snortil, they are very messy fish IMO and i think they should be kept in large tanks, i have 2 in a 3g (i know its bad there comin out soon) and whenever i stir the gravel its really messy

Hmmmm.......

I wonder if people who post on dog forums discuss the relative merits of various kinds of dogs on the basis of how much they poop. :dunno:

.......Just a thought

Inchworm, as a matter of fact, we dog people do discuss, amount and quality of our dogs digestive habits. The better quality foods produce less waste as more of the food is digestible.
But if you wanna take waste, just talk to the horse people. I can walk into a 14 stall barn and tell you which stall my horse was in last night!!

Hi kuter :)

 :hyper:  I guess we fish folks don't have it so bad no matter which fish we keep!

But, you just made me think of something. I use the water from my water changes to water my house plants. I especially like it when I rinse out the filter material and the water is full of organic matter. The rest I pour onto a big azalea bush that is outside my door. It seems to work as well as compost made of manure works in a garden. Have you ever tried this?
