Is This The Norm?

i hav 2 royal plecs in my tank. one about 2.5" and the other about 4".

they are always hiding in their caves and rarely enter out and when they do they dart from cover to cover.

thus i cant tell if thet are eating properly if i drop algae wafers in the other fish eat them. i put cuecumber in so maybe they eat that at night?

they eat mostly at night and they eat a lot of bogwood also

As far as I am aware Plecs are more of a nocturnal creature. They venture out more in the dark, so during lighter times, will be more than happy to hide away in places.

Mine does this and I never see him eating his/her wafers but I suppose the algae wafers disintegrate in the water and they can still feed off that.

If you have other fish in the tank, your pleco's will be prne to move quicker, what I find with mine.

I;ve spent fortuens on L numbers in past on fish I never seee, but I always got them out about once a month to check their bellies as once they sink they don;t seem to recover

Try courgette seems to be better than cucumber in my opinion , make sure bog wood in there as they eat that and maybe catfish sinking pellets my big old royal used to eat those as well

If theirs lots of hiding places it may encourgae them to come out but I always remeber my Panaque to be a bit of a scaredy cat and if I moved he would shoot away to his hidey hole

Completely normal, as they get bigger they start to struggle for hiding places so seeing them will be alot more often, im sure there feeding but try target feed more when lights are out than daytime with lights on, you will get far more of an idea of how and what there eating. Wood is a main part of there diet so aslong as that's in there they should be fine

there is loads of bog wood in there that is in fact what the larger one uses a its cave so it must live and eat in there!

omg i just looked over at the tank and as i am writing this they are both on a peice of cuecumber i put in ther a while ago! unbeliveable!!

i tryed to get a photo but guess what...gone in the blink of an eye
