i just brought a serafil 1300 external filter for 12 pounds is that cheap and what would you pay for it.

is this filteration sufficiant for my tank 103 gal 5x2x1.7ft tank with a internal filter a big external uv sterilizer and a v2 400 skimmer so i have two dwarf lion fish a sailfin tang a maroon clown a pink cheeked watchman goby a neon worm goby and a blue damsel also 28kg of live rock , coral and starfish and a picusion urchin.and i have a serafil 1300 in the post so will be adding that to ive been told by skifletch that i am not overstocked and said i might be able to have another fish and that was before i had the external so no worrys on that part

sounds like a bargain although i have no knowlwdge of this brand.

What plans do you have for the filtration inside? These external filters can quickly become a nitrate trap.

thats my next quistion im running it on marine and the filter is one with a pump in it so it sucks water in rather than have a seperate pump any way what shoud i put in it

ive already brought one and think aslong as i make it so its not a nitrate factory it cant hurt

I would double the amount of live rock you have

what flow do u have in the tank?

i sdont want and cant afford more lr and i have 4 power heasds cant rember flow off hand and all the filteration

Although i have sufficient live rock in my tank i also run an external as my safety net.

My external filter has 3 double chambers and a dual layer sponge.

The first thing to do is remove the sponge. unless you want to remove and rinse it once a week.

I have active carbon in one double chamber.

Rowaphos in another

Purigen in the final double chamber.

As i said i see these as my safety net.

Regular cleaning will keep it from building up the nitrates though.

ill do that thewn cheers
