I'v put my new 19 gallon tank on a stand but i dont know if its stable enough to hold the weight etc? Hopefully someone can let me know quickly cause if its not ill be emptying it tomorrow.
this is the tank and stand

I would reinforce it with some 2x4's, it doesn't seem to have any diagonal support, meaning a shove from the side will take it down. I would bet it is made from composition wood, which turns to oatmeal when it gets wet, bad combination.

i really want something better but dont have the money atm :( i'm moving it into a palce where there is a wall on either side so it wont be able to get knocked from the sides, with the 2x4s do you think it would be strong enough long term?

I am concerned with that stand. It looks like a TV stand which would be made to hold maybe 100 pounds. Water weighs over 8 pounds per gallon so your 19 gallons of water alone weighs about 160 pounds. Add the gravel and the tank itself and you are well over 200 pounds. You tell me if you would be comfortable with an adult man standing on that stand and you will have your answer.

Yup im gonna empty everything today and get a new stand :) i was a bit concerned but once it was up thought it was alright, guess its better safe than sorry :p

Just imagine how upset you'd be in a few months time after cycling your tank, researching and buying fish, aquascaping it all, getting everything stable and looking good only to find the whole lot smashed on the floor one day. If you get things right from the beginning and ask the right questions you'll be far better in the long wrong. Even when it's advice that maybe you don't want to here. I also agree by the way that that stand is just not sturdy looking enough. Good luck

:good:

Yer suppose, might aswell spend the money now than have to spend more if it goes wrong...

Looks strong enough to me.... although I would add a brace in the form of a rectangle or square of ply (or whatever you have knocking about) screwed into the back... so as to close off the two shelves - this would stop any possible twisting.

no that stand is not even close to strong enough.it's made out of particle board and i don't think it would hold even a 19 inch t.v.it's either put together with screws or camlocks.if it's put together with camlocks it might last awhile.but if it's screws it will not last long under that much weight.

If you absolutely had to use it, you may want to make some triangles out of solid wood, and glue them in all the corners for diagonal reinforcement... but since the particle board is covered in veneer, the glue will not stick... so you would need to screw it in, drilling holes for the screws would be key, as screwing directly into it will just crumble the particle board. lol SO, a new stand would be best. Temproarily, why not put it on the floor? Maybe get a sheet of plywood to throw it on for now. :) Also you must think about once you do get a new stand, it is a pain to move once it is full of water... you have to drain it, and get rid of all the water with the bacteria, ammonia, nitrites, etc needed to keep your tank developing (seeing as it is a new tank, and has not fully cycled yet). :)

Hope the new one is a decent price for ya! :D

getting a fluvel 125 i think its called :) got it off the seapets website? any one have any idea how long it will take to be delivered?

that makes no sense, one minute your asking us about a unsafe stand and the next your asking us when we think your new tank will be delivered? what kind of stand do you have for it?

:S have u read what i post? lol.... i asked about the stand i have currently..... people said it doesn't look strong enough... so i bought a new stand and its a fluvel 125 cabinet... and asking if anyone knows how long it will take to be delivered.....
