I'm debating removing the plastic top bit of my Fluval Roma 240 this is the plastic that goes round the top and the centre bar would this be safe ? I initially thought it wouldnt be as the centre bar would provide support but then I got to thinking if the tank was relying on that to any degree the sheer force of water could snap it easily.

On second thoughts I think the middle bar is only to stop the lighting bar falling into the tank if dislodged ?

So I ask you the great and the wise is this safe to do or not ?

honest, that brace is there for a reason. answer NO NO NO NO the tank is unsafe without it.

I believe that middle bar is to make sure that with the water pressure it doesn't start to 'bow' the glass. I know it sounds a bit silly that a piece of thin plastic would help. But I have a 29-gallon (30"L x 12"W x 18" H), that does not have that bar, And I can tell that my glass is bowing out in the middle (not by much). My brother has a 38-gal (36" x 12 x 19), his has the bar across the middle, and he has no bowing. The other interesting bit, is when his tank is full that plastic piece is 'tight', but when he does a massive water change, the piece becomes a bit more flexible. So I would say leave it in
