heres a copy of a thread ive started in eh plant section, as im trying to find out what to do with these new plants.

i just replanted my tank after my old swords seemed to enter a period of not growing, but not dying and not looking great.

i got a few decent sized swords, and some sort of really nice looking healthy plant, and everything looekd good.

when i first planted up my then new tank, i got a rusty plec. he ate most of the leaves as in the pics below, but he only done it once, then they looked great as in my sig. he never ate plants again.

now, heres my new plants :

about 2 days it took for that to happen. im not sure if its my rusty this time, i have another smaller plec that i suspect has a taste for them.

anyway, whats the best course of action now ? im thinking of trimming some leaves off, but i cant remove all the eaten ones, there wont be any left. and my new swords havnt got many leaves yet anyway.

my question to the plec gurus is does this look like the doing of a hungry plec, or could it be plant 'melt', which i dont think ive ever experienced. i mention this happened once before, but never again, so i guess its possible itis plant melt, and my second batch of leaves were healthy enough. but the advice from the shop on purchase of the rusty had convinced me it was him.

I have never had any issue with Anubias and Java Fern if you are looking for a compatible plant or two.

Have kept over 20 species of pleco, although never a Rusty

the thing that confuses me is if it was my rusty, he only did it once then never again. you can see in my sig he lived happily with lots of healthy amazon swords for a long time. im not a fan of java fern im afraid, and i am on the hunt for a nice anubias.

This looks more like the plant is unhappy some plants do this mine has done it and i dont have anything to eat it

Its just where its used to living some where then being moved to ur tank with different water stats they are slightly sensetive to moves like fish :)

Your plants look exactly like the lettuce leftovers from my pleco. :hey:
Strange however that my pleco does not eat any of the aquarium plants though. The only reason they would do that if there is not enough other food for them. Do you feed them algea tablets or anything?

i put 5 different foods in when i feed them, and i alternte what time i feed them between night and day. my plecs can be seen chomping algae tabs, meaty tabs and some other tabs ive got that look like fried eggs

those look identical to my swords after 2 days in the tank with my bristlenose.

I've tried swords on two occassions and got identical results. I doubt very much that it is the plant deteroriating as it happens far too quickly (overnight in my case)

its odd that for the 8 or 9 months they looked healthy as in my sig, it never happened despite having generally the same fish as i have now. it only happened when i first put them in, as it has this time.
