why does my forktail rainbow fish look like he is pulling up his head (or has a crooked back)? My other one is „normal“

Hello K. It appears the one fish has an abnormal spine. Could have been caused during birth. Its been my experience that with good care, these fish will live a normal life and breeding will be normal too. This isn't something that can be passed on to future generations, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just take good care of the fish as you would any other.

thank you. When I bought him he looked just like the other one- with a straight back. I am ok with it, just wanted to make sure that he didn’t have an ailment .

If the fish was straight when you got it, then it could be caused by eating a lot of food or it has a growth inside its body.

Does the fish straighten out a few hours after it has been fed?
How long has it been curved for?
How long did it take to become curved (overnight or a few weeks)?

I got them in mid May, he looked like the other one. Might have noticed the curve beginning or mid of July and it has been like this. He doesn’t behave any diff than the other - eating, swimming out front up n down . I am just going to observe him and let him be. like I said: it doesn’t bother me, he is still interesting

It's probably a growth inside him and there's nothing you can do about that anyway. Just let him be until he has trouble swimming or stops eating, then euthanise him.
