OK I had my Rio180 running about 2 weeks and I have 7 platies in it, was 6 but had to move a over sexually active male from my other tank as females were getting stressed by all the attention.
Anyway platies been in a week and the water just went cloudy yesterday so I done a 30% water change but still a slight haze in there and platies seem fine an feeding. Do I just see if it settles/clears or wait a day or so an do another water change ? Will try get water tested tomorrow.

The cycle-filter bacteria are aerobic- they "breathe" air- so are not present in any quantity in water. I don't think it is beneficial bacteria.
However, I agree that it is a bacteria bloom. These are pretty normal in new tanks and clear up over time.
I'd suggest you do frequent water changes until the tank is cycled though.

I went to shop an all water stats are as they should be at this moment in time but the guy in shop seems to think it is the start of an algae problem from what I told him and how it just came about. Can't remember what sort of algae he said it was or could be but he said water changes will not help get rid of it it will just encourage it. I got to monitor state of water(better or worse) and platies and keep him informed and we will decided in a couple of days on treatment.
