Admiral is about a year old now, and has become huge, healthy, and is normally a very friendly, active fish. Well today he has been going haywire! He'll hover at the bottom of the tank, and then be perfectly still...then his front fins start to wiggle, and they go faster and faster, then his whole body is shimmering with motion and then he lunges for the surface, gulps some air or something and DIVES down, one time he even bonked into the glass!

He's also FLARING, including expanding his fins to their maximum. There are no other bettas around! Why is he acting so hyper?

My Ethan has been doing the same thing the last 2 days...and this is very strange for ethan because he's special needs and doesn't swim...just sits on his leaf due to an underdeveloped swim bladder.

Not good, I'd rather him not die. Do you know what she died of? If I know what it is I can treat it, I've got a fully stocked fishy medical kit

No.. I never did find out. One day she was healthy and spry as a fry, the next she was doing what your boy is doing, then she flat out died just out of the blue..

Unlikely its warm, sunny and there isn't a cloud in the sky here. I just did a water change today, I aged the water, got it to the correct temperature, let him adjust to it in a cup and put stress coat in, so I don't think he's shocked.

I gave him chicken liver yesterday, like I always do before a water change, but he's never acted that way before. He's been building huge bubble nests the past couple of weeks too, so I know he's happy.

Hmm, ok, never mind. He turned a circle three times and decided that was enough insanity. He is now admiring his thermometer and taking nice quiet gulps of air and effortless gliding again
