Is this heater OK for my tank?

It is the NeWattino Automatic Aquarium Heater. I have a 11 litre tank, coldwaer at the moment. THe tank is plastic. Will the heater be OK?

What wattage did you get? The 25w would be fine, and yes it will be fine in a plastic tank as long as its not actually touching the plastic as the water will dissipate the heat. Anything more than 25w and its overkill IMO.

The heater is permanently on and there is no requirement for any temperature adjustment.

Dunno about that. I would monitor the temp for the first few days to make sure the temp does not fluctuate too much. Otherwise it looks ok. Didn't see those, I was just looking at the top ones, sorry.

Thats mainlt what I was wondering about. What is the risk of it overheating the water?

I have a 7.5 watt in my 2.5 gallons and they have always held the temp at about 79F. Here is the mistake I made today that you MUST be careful of ... I feel like a moron for doing this.

In my empty 2.5 I was preparing for my new betta I did a waterchange after getting the cycle going with some media from my other tank.

Well it took me a while (maybe 20 minutes?) before I came back to add the water to it again. Idiot me forgot to UNPLUG the heater and the &*$%^ thing melted the casing and burned out the heater. The plasic of the tank is fine because it wasnt touching.

So remember to unplug the heater or make sure it is still submursed to the proper level when doing water changes.

(lucky there were no fish in there THANK GOODNESS)

Lol, duh! Although it does have a sensor on it that switches it off when it's out of water.

Dont think it will overheat the water, but you never know, thats why I said keep an eye on it for a day or two. I have seen similar heaters in shops round here and they just raise the temp by 3-4 degrees, so if you have a cold house it may not be enough.

Well, the tank will be for guppies, until they die, then platies or a betta. My friend wants to give me some of her Sunset platies
