Hello everyone,

I believe this guppy to be pregnant, what do you think?

Is it worth placing her in a hatchery now?

thanks!
Dave

She doesn't seem pregnant to me, but I could be mistaken. I personally wouldn't place her in the breeder box as this will stress her out and would make her abort/lose her fry.

And let the males continually hound her?
I thought it was a good idea to separate them?

I have seperated mine in a breeder net but I am realley good at it so as soon as I put her in there minutes later she pops them out. It is all about timing because if you put her in there too early it could kill her. Bit I got like 50 when I bred my platys so I would suggest not using one because you have nowhere to put them. Just have alot of hiding places and some will survive.

It is sometimes preferable to separate them, but only in a decent sized tank. The breeding nets can be used for the fry after they are born. Placing the mother will severely stress her and possibly kill her and/or her fry.

If the male is harassing her, either get a few more males or remove the male until 1 weeks after she gives birth

I put the male in time out for a bit with my girls if he is getting to randy and harassing and I let the girls get a break and settle back down.

Get more females you meant?
OP, what is your ratio male to females?

With livebearers like guppies you need more females than males. The usual recommendation is at least twice as many females than males. This is because males pester females constantly and with more females each one gets time out while the males chase a different female.
