Hia I have now decided to go for an external filter
Would the eheim 2327 be over kill for my 180 L tank?

The spec is below

Wet/Dry 2327-51 External Filter

For Tank litre/gal: 350/77
Pump Output: 1050 l/h
Filter Circulation: 550 l/h
Delivery Head: 2.0mWs
Filter Volume: 4.9 L
Power Consumption: 25 w
Dimensions: 333x210x210

Thanks,Ken

Hi there,

I run the Thermo 2128 External on my 320L / 70Imp Gal tank.

These are the stats for it below.

For aquariums up to approx. 600L / 132Imp Gal
Pump output per Hr: 1050L / 231Imp Gal
Filter volume: 7.30L / 1.61 Imp Gal
Filter circulation per Hr: 750L / 165 Imp Gal
Delivery head: 2m / 6'7''
Power consumption: 20W
Power consumption heater: 210W
Dimensions H / W / D approx.: 415mm x 210mm x 210mm - 16.3'' x 8.3'' x 8.3''
Max height installation filter base: 180cm / 5.9ft
Hose suction side: 16 - 22mm / 3/4''
Filter cartridges: normal S. 26-27 / aktiv S. 26-27

I posted a simlar message when I first started, some said too much others said it would be ok if I remember right.

I have had no problems, fish that don't prefare a powerfull flow tend to just swim in areas where it is less (which there is plenty of)

Ps - On the 2128 you can slow the flow rate right down if you wish, but I don't do this anymore.

I have my spray bar about 4inches down positioned horizontally, and have it so the holes in the spray bar point upwards. This breaks the surface nicely & produces a decent flow along the surface.

Hope this helps

Good stuff glad you got it sorted. Odd though that you say your Juwel was noisy :S I've had my 180 for 3 years now and it's as silent as a graveyard

It was a bit weird as it went through phases of being loud. This is the 2nd powerhead as well as the first one broke!

In terms of fish I already have some stock, I started the tank about 18 months ago. Ive learnt a bit more since then so wouldnt choose the same if I could turn bacl the clock!
I currently have 2 Angels, 2 Silver Dollars, 6 Red Eye Tertas, A dwarf Puffer thing (behaves fine with no nipping) and two small catfish. Was thinkinh of getting a few more smaller fish to add some more colour... any suggestions??
