I just got these from my LFS today [3 red eyed tetras] and one of them keeps going into this vertical position, and just floating around. When he is not vertical it likes to just sit at the top of the water. Is this normal? I have a feeling im just nervous about it, but wanted to make sure this wasnt some strange habit i needed to be aware of...

it may have some sort of illness, i'm guessing either an internal bactirial illness or possible something to do with the swimbladder however i'm not entirerly sure on this. best thing to do is put a post in the fish illness section to get a better answer.

hope this helps

I have a black phantom that does this.

He still feeds but is skinny with the effort of swimming constantly. In my case it is not due to a "disease" as he has been suffering for around 4 months and no others have even shown signs of begining this behavious. I think it is an internal problem with the swim bladder which is not contageous.

I shall simply ensure I dont breed from him and that if he goes downhill he is put out of his misery.

Watch the fish well and check they are feeding. If they feed and stay in the same condition then you may just have a "duff" fish. You could take him back to the store and swap him.
