Last night I gave all of my bettas a few frozen bloodworms (I was trying them for the new guy since he's not eating anything else, and didn't eat these either which is driving me crazy because he's acting so normal otherwise but just refuses to eat, like he's mocking me or something....and BREATH...sorry about the tangent lol  ). They would all jump up a little out of the water to get the bloodworms (well, all of them EXCEPT the new guy Simon you has forced me to curl up to the fetal position MORE THAN ONCE). It'd maybe be a 1/4 inch from the water surface and they would grab the bloodworm from me. Is this bad for them? I'm affraid it might damage their gills or something (I have to admit it is entertaining though :shifty: ). How often should the get frozen bloodworms?

mine jump like that too,my daughter and I always laugh and say it's like being in the splash section at Sea World when we feed the bettas

I have this one female who is soo precise she jumps up and snags the food off my finger before I even know what happened

I don't think it's bad for them, they'd do it to catch bugs if they lived in the wild (a few of mine have even caught the occasional housefly :D )

I hand out bloodworms two to three times a week in the evening, they still get pellets for breakfast though

Well one of my females does the same...however shes never jumped out of the tank (I believe its happened to you wuvmybetta?) ;)

Backwhen I had my first betta something went way wrong in the tank (Vas with plants actualy) so I yanked him out and dumped him in a bowl the little guy jumped more than an inch and a quarter at 2 am and died on the carpet... in hindsight I should have left him in a mason jar.

That's sad...i hope you got a nice betta to replace him that doesn't jump

I don't think jumping will hurt your fish, Dixaisy

My betta is pretty calm, but my gouramis sometimes jump when they go for air and it has never harmed their gills or labrynth. :)

Yup,that was me.

I had a female jump out and flip behind my desk,a mild heart attack later I found her covered in rabbit fur

She still jumps like that! After her 3rd or 4th trip out of her tank I got a critter keeper for her so that I could feed her through the little hinged door :shifty: :grr: :D
